How to Prank People on Chatroulette

Author's Note: This article is for educational purposes only. I do not condone the use of fake videos to do anything illegal, immoral, or unethical. There are plenty of ways to have fun on Chatroulette with a fake video without doing anything that would cause a person harm or ridicule.

This article serves two purposes: First, it aims to show you how to have a little fun with people on Chatroulette. Second, it will hopefully show you why you should never trust anyone or anything you see on the site. In ten minutes (after reading this article), you will be able to use a fake video to fool people into thinking they are talking to someone else.

Setting Up The Software

In order to work on some pranks, you will need to download and install a program the tricks your computer into thinking your "webcam" is actually a video file. There is an article here that explains how to download and install this software.

Securing a Video

The next step to executing a prank is to locate a video that is convincing and believable. Since 99% of the Chatroulette population is male, the best video is one of a female. They will be so shocked to see a woman on the site that they will almost always stay and talk. Again, I don't condone the use of explicit videos. For that reason, I recommend finding a video on YouTube to use. Try doing a search for "girl talking on webcam." You want to find a video that focuses on a face, and does not expose the hands, which should be in typing position on a keyboard. It should also be at least five minutes long, because if it keeps looping, many people will notice and the prank is ruined. Here is a sample of a good video to look for:

At the same time, you will also want to find a video of a room full of guys laughing. This is important for the second part of the prank. Look for something like this:

Once you've found two videos, you will need to download them. Here is an article about downloading YouTube videos: it's very simple. Make sure to use AVI, MPG, MPEG, or MP2 format. Save the videos to someplace you can find them easily, like your desktop.

Executing the Prank

This is how the prank works: Log on to Chatroulette using your fake video of a woman. Find a guy who is eager to talk. Many of them want you (the fake video) to show a certain pair of items on a female. (I hate that this site is full of these kinds of people, but this is how I have found to pay them back - prank them.) If you have found a video that they believe, now is the chance to get them to do something stupid. I prefer telling them to draw pictures on their heads with a permanent marker, do a silly dance, or something stupid like that. Obviously the options here are unlimited and up to you. I like having them do a dance because they have to leave the computer. At that time, you will switch the video to the video of men laughing and enjoy their reaction. 

How to Switch Videos

The guide I linked to above shows you how to use the fake video. But in order to switch the video while talking to someone, you need to change the video source by clicking "video source" and then "video file." Then select the other video. You can do this in the middle of talking to someone. 

Tips and Tricks

It is important to make the person you are talking to feel like they are actually talking to whoever the video is of. Don't type if the fake person in your video has their hands in the air. Remember that this site is NOT RECOMMENDED for children and does not allow users under 16. Good luck, and be careful.

So it was that simple to make a fake video. This is to teach you that someone could be pranking YOU next time you start talking to them on Chatroulette. There is no way to be sure, but you can always ask the person to wave or do something a fake video couldn't. Be safe!
